Causal organism : Phthorimaea operculella

SYMPTOMS OF DAMAGE

  • This pest can be seen both in field as well as in storage condition
  • Larva bores and makes tunnels in the foliage, stem and tubers
  • Galleries can be seen near tuber eyes.

Management

Use insecticides like Emamectin benzoate

BLACK CUTWORM

Causal organism : Agrotis ipsilon

Symptoms

  • Young larvae feed leaves and its epidemis
  • Older larvae cut the stem of the plants by its feeding habit in the
  • They also damage the tubers by feeding on them

MANAGEMENT

Use Chlorpyriphos @ 20l/ha

Use pheromone traps

Use insecticides like dimethoate and emamectin benzoate

WHITEFLY

Causal organism : Bemisia tabaci

SYMPTOMS OF DAMAGE

  • Yellowing  of leaves
  • Curling of leaves can be observed
  • Nymphs suck sap from the leaves and lower their vitality
  • Sooty mould develops on affected leaves due to honey dew secretion

MANAGEMENT

Use Daman cotto 12 @ 1-1.5ml/lit

Use Bifenthin

Use of Acetamaprid can control whiteflies

GREEN PEACH APHID

Causal organism : Myzus persicae

SYMPTOMS OF DAMAGE

  • Aphids suck the cell sap from the leaves
  • It results in dryness and paleness of leaves
  • This pest also transmits various viral diseases to potato plants
  • Finally loss of crop and yield can be seen

MANAGEMENT

Use Insecticides to control aphids like Shine @ 1-1.5 ml/lit
