Identification                                                                              

Eggs

Are creamy white in colour, sphericalinshapeandarelaidsingly.

Larvae

They shows colourvariation from greenish to brown.

Green withdark brown grey lines laterally on the body with lateral white lines and also has dark and pale bands.

Pupae

Are brown in colour, occurs in soil, leaf and pods.

Adults

Have light pale brownish yellow stout moth.

Forewings aregreytopalebrownwithVshapedspeck.

Hindwings are pale smoky white with a broad blackish outer margin.

Symptoms of damage

In the initial stages we can observe defoliation of leaves

Larva bores holes and inserts its head inside the pods and the rest of the body will be hanging out.

Pods will have round holes due to its infestation.

Small spots appear on the leaves.

These spots increase in size and appear like brownring.

Purple lines can be found in the rings.

When the disease increases, these spots become large and interconnected with each other

Management

Application of Emamectin benzoat@2-2.5ml/lit

Use Vayego@80ml/acre.

Causal organism : Melanagromyza obtusa

Identification

Eggs

Eggs are laid by them singly or in cluster inside or on the pod.

The fly lays about 60-80 eggs.

Larva

Larval period is about 5-18 days

Pupa

Pupal period varies from 7-10 days. A number of overlapping generations are found in a year.

Adult

Symptoms

We can observe dark brown patches on the walls of the pod

Pin head sized holes can be seen on dry pods

Seeds are shrivelled and are eaten incompletely by larva

They bore into the pods and starts to feed on internal content

Pods are not suitable for consumption

Management

Spray insecticides like Cypermethrin, Profenophos

Causal organism : Lampides Boeticus

Identification

      Egg

Are pale yellow to green in colour, laid singly.

Larva

Is pale green in colour,flat and slightly rounded and has rough skin.

Adult 

Moth is greyish blue in colour with large black spots on hind wings and a long tail.

Ventral side of wings has numerous stripes and brown spots.

Symptoms

  • Boreholes can be seen in buds, flowers and young pods.
  • Presence of slug like caterpillar in the plants.
  • Honey dew secretion can be seen on the leaves.
  • It leads to sooty mould formation.

Causal organism : Aceria cajani

Identification

Eggs

Are milky white in colour and are found on vegetative part of the plant.

Nymph

Nymphsarefoundonyoungfoldedleaves.

Adults

Are very small (0.2 mm long) light pink, spindle shaped, and are normally found on the undersurface of the leaves.

Symptoms

  • Infected plants havelight green or chlorotic leaves.
  • Leaves have mosaic patterns on them.
  • Infected plants will not bear flowers.
  • There will be reduced flowering and pod set.

Management

Spray Dimethoate 30 EC of 1 lit

Use shine @ 2.5 ml/lit

Use Bio R 303 @ 2.5ml/lit
