Causal organism:Helicoverpa armigera
Are creamy white in colour, sphericalinshapeandarelaidsingly.
They shows colourvariation from greenish to brown.
Green withdark brown grey lines laterally on the body with lateral white lines and also has dark and pale bands.
Are brown in colour, occurs in soil, leaf and pods.
Have light pale brownish yellow stout moth.
Hindwings are pale smoky white with a broad blackish outer margin.
Symptoms of damage
In the initial stages we can observe defoliation of leaves
Larva bores holes and inserts its head inside the pods and the rest of the body will be hanging out.
Pods will have round holes due to its infestation.
Small spots appear on the leaves.
These spots increase in size and appear like brownring.
Purple lines can be found in the rings.
When the disease increases, these spots become large and interconnected with each other

Eggs are laid by them singly or in cluster inside or on the pod.
The fly lays about 60-80 eggs.
Larval period is about 5-18 days

We can observe dark brown patches on the walls of the pod
Pin head sized holes can be seen on dry pods
Seeds are shrivelled and are eaten incompletely by larva
They bore into the pods and starts to feed on internal content
Pods are not suitable for consumption

Are pale yellow to green in colour, laid singly.
Is pale green in colour,flat and slightly rounded and has rough skin.

- Boreholes can be seen in buds, flowers and young pods.
- Presence of slug like caterpillar in the plants.
- Honey dew secretion can be seen on the leaves.
- It leads to sooty mould formation.

- Infected plants will not bear flowers.
